Have one day for Mijas Pueblo? Then you see the white mountain village at its best without rushing. We share our favourite day plan, built around the rhythm of the village: start gently in the morning, lunch with a view and end at sunset. From the coast you are there in fifteen minutes.

Come early, around 10:00, while it is still cool and quiet. Park in the underground car park on Avenida del Compás and start on the Plaza Virgen de la Peña with the rock-carved Ermita. Then wander the whitewashed streets, with Calle San Sebastián as the photo moment.
Take time to get lost; the prettiest corners are just off the main route. A full overview is in our guide things to do in Mijas Pueblo.
Then dive into the culture. Visit the Centro de Arte Contemporáneo (CAC Mijas) with Picasso ceramics among other things, or the ethnological museum. Walk on to the almost-oval bullring and the gardens along the old wall, with, again, sweeping views over the coast.
These stops are small and cheap, ideal for an hour before hunger strikes.
Around 14:00 it is time for a long Spanish lunch. Choose a terrace on the edge of the village with a sea panorama, or a traditional spot in the streets for Andalusian classics. Book for the tables with the best view.
Our dining addresses are in the guide to restaurants in Mijas Pueblo.
After lunch it is quieter and cooler. Stroll along the viewpoints, with the Mirador del Compás as the highlight, and browse the artisan shops for ceramics, leather and souvenirs. Rather not walk because of the slopes? There are horse-drawn carriages; for the donkey taxis, read our honest take in the guide to the donkey taxis of Mijas.
Treat yourself to a coffee or an ice cream on a square, a perfect break.
Stay until the sun goes down. From the miradores the coast turns from gold to orange, and on clear days you see far across the Mediterranean. It is the loveliest moment of the day in Mijas Pueblo, and a good reason not to plan your trip back too early.
Afterwards you drive back to the coast in fifteen minutes. To fit this into a wider week, see our 7-day Mijas Costa itinerary.
