The nightlife of La Cala de Mijas is relaxed and sociable, no thumping clubs but terraces, live music and a drink with a sea view. Just right after a day of beach or golf. We share where to go out best, and where to head if you want a bigger night.

The Paseo Marítimo is the beating heart in the evening. The terraces fill with people enjoying a tinto de verano or a cocktail as the sun goes down. The atmosphere is easy-going and international, and you can stroll from bar to bar along the sea.
Start with dinner at a chiringuito, see our guide to restaurants in La Cala, and let the evening build from there.
In summer there is regular live music on the promenade and in the bars, from acoustic sets to cover bands. Cocktail bars are popular for an after-dinner drink, and some places keep going into the small hours. It is pleasantly busy but rarely hectic.
If you come during the feria week in late July, you experience the village at its liveliest; read our guide to the Feria de La Cala.
For a more authentic night, dive into the side streets, where traditional Spanish bars serve cheap copas and tapas amid lively chatter and sometimes flamenco in the background. It is the real, local way of going out: eat late, linger long and move from bar to bar.
Remember that Spaniards start late; before 22:00 it is often still quiet.
If you really want nightlife with clubs and bigger venues, La Cala is the wrong place, and we mean that as a compliment. For the bigger scene you drive to Fuengirola (ten minutes) or the glamorous Puerto Banús near Marbella (twenty minutes by car).
See our guides to Fuengirola and Marbella and Puerto Banús. Take a taxi if you are going to drink.
