Events and fiestas in Mijas 2026

Mijas and La Cala de Mijas celebrate all year round, but summer is the season of the fiestas. From bonfires on the beach to processions down to the sea and ferias with sevillanas late into the night. This calendar lays out the main events of 2026, with the dates we know and a link to the full guide for each one, so you can plan your trip around them.

Spring: carnival and Semana Santa

The festive year opens in February with carnival, with costumes and parades in both Mijas Pueblo and La Cala. Around Easter comes Semana Santa (Holy Week), with solemn processions through the streets of the white village. The exact dates vary each year; in 2026 Easter falls in early April.

Spring is one of the loveliest times to visit the municipality: pleasant temperatures, nature in bloom and beaches still quiet. For more on the season, read things to do in Mijas Pueblo.

23 June: Noche de San Juan

Summer truly begins on the night of 23 to 24 June, during the Noche de San Juan. On the beaches of La Cala, bonfires burn and people jump over the waves at midnight for luck in the year ahead. It is one of the most atmospheric evenings of the year, and free to attend.

July: Virgen del Carmen and the Feria de La Cala

July is the busiest festival month. On 16 July the fishing village of La Cala honours its patron saint during the Virgen del Carmen, with a procession down to the sea and the unique underwater statue that divers bring to the surface.

In late July, in 2026 from 22 to 27 July, the great Feria de La Cala de Mijas erupts: casetas, sevillanas, a funfair and music into the small hours, in honour of Santiago Apóstol. This is the high point of the coastal summer.

August: Cala Mijas Festival

In 2022 and 2023, late August saw the international Cala Mijas Festival on the beach. Important to know: that festival was cancelled in 2024 and the promoter moved it to Madrid (where it continues as Kalorama). A return to La Cala has not been announced. The rest of August does bring plenty of live music in the chiringuitos and bars along the promenade.

September: the Feria de Mijas Pueblo

Summer closes high in the mountains. Around 8 September, the day of the Virgen de la Peña, the white village holds its own Feria de Mijas Pueblo (in 2025 from 6 to 11 September). It is a friendly village feria with a procession, cabalgata and casetas, quite different from the coastal feria in July. We explain the difference between the two in Mijas Pueblo vs Mijas Costa.

Autumn and winter

After summer it gets quieter, but the village does not fall silent. Autumn brings gastronomic days and markets, and in December Mijas Pueblo lights up with Christmas lights, a living nativity and New Year celebrations. We wrote about that calm, bright side of the season in Mijas in winter.

Planning your trip around the fiestas

If you want to catch a festival, plan early: July and early September are popular and accommodation is scarce then. If you stay in La Cala or Riviera del Sol, you can walk or cycle to most events and you will not need a car. For more on where to base yourself, read where to stay in Mijas.

What festivals are on in summer in La Cala de Mijas?

The Noche de San Juan (23 June), the Virgen del Carmen (16 July), the Feria de La Cala de Mijas (22 to 27 July in 2026) and, in September, the Feria de Mijas Pueblo. The Cala Mijas Festival ended in 2024; the promoter moved it to Madrid (Kalorama).

When is the feria in Mijas in 2026?

There are two ferias: the Feria de La Cala de Mijas on the coast (22 to 27 July 2026) and the Feria de Mijas Pueblo in the mountains, around 8 September.

Is Cala Mijas Festival happening in 2026?

No. The festival was cancelled in 2024 and the promoter moved it to Madrid (Kalorama). A return to La Cala has not been announced.
